چکیده

Abstract Over the past decades, a number of water sciences and management programs have been developed to better understand manage cycles at multiple temporal spatial scales for various purposes, such as ecohydrology, global hydrology, sociohydrology, supply management, demand integrated resources (IWRM). At same time, rapid advancements also taking place in tracing, mapping, remote sensing, machine learning, modelling technologies hydrological research. Despite those advancements, crisis is intensifying globally. The missing link effective interactions between research resource support implementation UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) scales. Since watershed natural unit science offers potential bridge this link. This study first reviews advances then discusses issues challenges facing community. Subsequently, it describes core components science: (1) analysis; (2) water-operation policies; (3) governance; (4) feedback. framework takes into account availability, uses, quality; explicitly focuses on storage, fluxes, quality cycle; defines appropriate local thresholds through incorporating planetary boundary framework; identifies specific actionable measures management. It provides complementary approach existing addressing current achieving SDGs.

Instream Flow Science for Sustainable River Management

Concerns for water resources have inspired research developments to determine the ecological effects of water withdrawals from rivers and flow regulation below dams, and to advance tools for determining the flows required to sustain healthy riverine ecosystems. This paper reviews the advances of this environmental flows science over the past 30 years since the introduction of the Instream Flow ...

ArcEGMO-URBAN--hydrological model for point sources in river basins.

The new model ArcEGMO-URBAN aims at deterministic and spatiotemporal modelling of water, nitrogen and phosphorus fluxes from all urbanised areas of a river basin considering all potential sources. Pollution loads are calculated for discrete urban patches and balanced on the level of hydrological subbasins. Modelling results can be defined by the user of any level of spatial and/or temporal aggr...

The rise of hydrological science off Earth

It has been a long lasting interest to understand the laws that underlie water movement on Earth with the purpose to control it and make use of it. It is now recognized that water is not exclusive to the Earth but, rather, is a major constituent of the matter in the universe and may be a proxy for life in other planets as well. In this paper, we reflect on the need to expand the boundaries of t...

Linking science with environmental decision making: Experiences from an integrated modeling approach to supporting sustainable water resources management

The call for more effective integration of science and decision making is ubiquitous in environmental management. While scientists often complain that their input is ignored by decision makers, the latter have also expressed dissatisfaction that critical information for their decision making is often not readily available or accessible to them, or not presented in a usable form. It has been sug...
